San Mateo County will buy a 1,500-square-foot hotel in the San Francisco Bay Area to provide housing for people experiencing homelessness, county authorities announced Thursday.
The funds will be raised by hosting the first ever San Mateo County Homelessness Awareness Day event on May 5, 2018. The event, sponsored by the Department of Housing and Community Development and the San Francisco Bay Area Housing Authority, will take place from 9: 30 a.m. to noon in Shotgun, San Matador County. The event is organized by the University of Santa Clara's School of Public Health and Health Sciences in collaboration with the county's Office of Human Services and San Jose State University. The regional event, organized by the Fashion Market of Northern California, is scheduled to begin at 7: 30 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds in Watsonville.
